Kristin Ahlness Lic. Assoc. RE Broker

Kristin began her career as a real estate professional in Ithaca in 1977, and since then she’s spent over 35 years working in the field full-time in Ithaca and Maine. She also has extensive experience in property management, rentals and marketing. In 1996, she joined Audrey Edelman and Associates, where she has worked for over 20 years.  Kristin moved to the downtown office in 2006, as the company merged with RealtyUSA. In 2008, she joined the Platinum Club, RealtyUSA’s highest level of sales performance, and has been a member of the company’s President’s Council ever since. In 2014 and 2015, she achieved the Top Individual Salesperson Award at the Downtown office.

Kristin has experience in many aspects of real estate. In Maine, she specialized in lakefront property (mostly second homes), and 1031 exchanges. Having owned an organic dairy farm and operated a wholesale whole grain bakery near Ithaca (farm-to-table before it had a name :-), Kristin possesses a unique understanding of business, farms, and rural properties. She closed the largest sale of a Finger Lakes Winery in 2015. She has also owned rental property in downtown Ithaca and enjoys selling property in the vibrant city neighborhoods!

Since husband, Greg Thomas, is founder and Chief Strategist of Performance Systems Development (based in Ithaca and Philadelphia), she is knowledgeable in the fields of energy efficiency, green building, solar, geothermal systems, and building performance. Kristin is the only agent in Tompkins county with NAR’s Green designation and the EcoBroker certification, and is past Chair of the Green Building Committee of the Ithaca Board of Realtors. She holds the GRI designation, and is a Seniors Real Estate Specialist, and enjoys working with seniors downsizing, as this was a process with her own parents, who came to live their last years here in Ithaca…     Kristin and Greg live in a Greek Revival farmhouse on 7 acres with two ponds, just 5 miles from downtown Ithaca. Their two children graduated from Ithaca Schools – IHS and Lehman Alternative School. Both graduated college and have successful careers (yay!).

Kristin thoroughly enjoys life in Ithaca and wants you to know it IS as good as it appears! The vibrant small city, it’s talented musicians, artists, performers, farmers, and food creators add immensely to the quality of life. Cornell and Ithaca college bring the intellectual and cultural diversity we enjoy. And the hiking, waterfalls, parks, and farmer’s market make this wonderful community tough to duplicate!

In addition to devoting herself to her clients, Kristin is an organic gardener and landscaper, who loves music, cooking, hiking, t’ai chi, swimming, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. As her oldest brother is deaf, she is also adept in American Sign Language.
