Invest Your Tax Refund into Your Home

Tax season is not something we look forward to; unless you’re getting a return!  It’s like Christmas in April!  If you are one of the lucky ones to receive a return, I’m sure you’re already looking for ways to spend it. Here are some ideas that will help improve the look and value of your home.

Replace Your HVAC

Your HVAC system is probably the most expensive appliance you own, so it’s typically not something you can pay for out of pocket.  With a tax return, though, the HVAC system could easily be replaced.  This will also add value to your home.

Replace Your Siding

The look of your home is everything. It’s what makes the first impression. Vinyl siding can update the look of your home and also add curb appeal.  We all know it’s no small project, but with your tax return, and some research, this could transform your entire home.

Replace Your Entry Door

The entry door welcomes your guests into your home.  What kind of vibe do you want to set when they walk through it? Replacing the entry door can convert your entrance.  Keep in mind that steel doors can add beauty, security and value.  There are even grants out there that help make your home more energy efficient, and the entry door is the first update on the list.

Update Your Playground

It doesn’t matter how old we are, we all want a playground or playroom.  With a tax return, add a new wood deck to the back of your house for those summer gatherings. Add a shed in the yard for storage (or a she-shed!).  A fence around the yard will keep the others kids (neighbors) off your playground, too.

Replace Your Windows

Drafty windows de-value a home and costs you more money a month. Replacing them with new ones can help increase the value of your home and provide you a better insulated and comfortable home all year long.

These are just a few things you could do with your tax return.  Others include updating your kitchen hardware, painting the bedrooms, sealing the driveway, adding a tile backsplash, insulating the attic and the list could go on.

Your home is your investment.  Help it grow and add value when you can.  Tax season is one useful way to do this.

How to Make a Good Impression as a Seller

Studies show that we make up our minds about people within seconds of meeting them. So it stands to reason that prospective buyers are doing the very same thing with your house, especially in a red-hot real estate market. More buyers these days are sizing up your space and making lightning-quick decisions about whether it's worth investigating further—or whether they should hop back in the car and move on to the next house. In order to make the best impression when selling your house, there are some tried and true standards that you should follow.
