Sonia Charles

I was born in Puerto Rico and at the age of 6 years,  my family moved to Lorain, Ohio, where my father had been working at the National Tube Company (now known as Kobe Steel) for several years.  I have been a member of  Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain since 1953, and I am a very active member of Sacred Heart.  We have a wonderful fiesta in July where you can purchase Puerto Rican and Mexican foods.  I also make a trip to El Salvador every December.  This is a missionary trip whereby we deliver toys to children in the remote mountain areas as well as taking medicines to a clinic that our church maintains there. 

I worked for the City of Lorain's Community Development Department for 32 years where I was in charge of the housing programs for the City, retiring in 1999.  I have received extensive training from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

I have served in various Boards throughout the years, including Catholic Charities, Neighborhood House Association,  Lorain Urban Minority Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Outreach Program (UMADAOP), and Sacred Heart Manor (Apartment building for elderly and handicapped persons).

I was licensed as a Real Estate Agent in 1987.  I work hard for my buyers and sellers; I go the extra mile.  My ability to speak, write and read Spanish has been a tremendous help in my association with my Spanish-speaking clients.

I place a lot of emphasis on the family and I will treat my buyers and sellers with the same consideration as if they were my own family.  My commitment to both is to work hard and make sure that the selling and buying process is as smooth as posible.

Nací en Puerto Rico y a la edad de 6 años vine a la Ciudad de Lorain con mi familia.  Mi papá ya estaba trabajando en la Compañía de Acero National Tube, la cual ahora se llama Kobe Steel.  He sido miembro de la Capilla del Sagrado Corazón en Lorain desde el 1953 donde he sido muy activa.  En el més de julio tenemos las Fiestas Patronales, la cual es una de las fiestas más grandes durante el verano en la Ciudad de Lorain.  Ahí pueden conseguir comidas puertorriqueñas y mejicanas muy saborosas.  También cada año hago un viaje a El Salvador en donde hago trabajo misionero.

Trabajé para la Ciudad de Lorain en el Departamento del Desarrollo de la Ciudad por 32 años donde estaba encargada de los programas de viviendas de la Ciudad, jubilándome en el 1999.  He recibido entrenamiento extensivo del Departamento de Viviendas y Desarrollo Urbano y del Departamento de Transportación del Estado de Ohio.

He servido en varias Juntas a través de los años, incluyendo Las Caridades Católicas, La Asociación Neighborhood House, UMADAOP, y la Corporación de la Comunidad del Sagrado Corazón.

Fuí licenciada como agente de bienes raíces en el 1987.  Trabajo fuerte para mis compradores y vendedores; voy la milla adicional.  Mi habilidad de hablar, escribir y leer el español ha sido una ayuda tremenda en mi asociación con mis clientes de habla español.

Soy una persona que pone mucho énfasis en la familia y trataré a mis compradores y vendedores con la misma consideración como si fueran mi propia familia.   Mi compromiso a ámbos es trabajar fuerte y asegurar que el proceso de vender y comprar sea lo más fácil posible.
