Rostraver Township, PA Real Estate Market

One of the fastest-growing townships in Pennsylvania, Rostraver is a welcoming community in Westmoreland County. Southeast of the city of Pittsburgh, it is bordered on its west side by the Monongahela River and on its east side by the Youghiogheny River.
Formerly inhabited by the Mingo people, the area was first settled by Europeans during the 1750s, and Rostraver was established as one of the original townships in Westmoreland County at the time of the county’s formation in 1773. Rostraver’s name is likely drawn from a phonetic spelling of the name of the town of Rostrevor in Northern Ireland, from which some of its earliest residents emigrated. The area is still home to numerous historic landmarks, including a major Native American archaeological site and the historic Fells Methodist Church, constructed in 1834, which currently houses the local historical society.
The township’s 36 square miles encompass a diverse group of environments, including residential, agricultural, and commercial areas. In recent years, energy companies working with the area’s natural gas deposits have helped power the local economy. Rostraver is home to more than 300 local businesses, and both Route 51 and I-70 run through the heart of the township, simplifying travel for commuters.
Many activities are available at Cedar Creek Park, which permits access to the Youghiogheny River Trail and the Great Allegheny Passage system of hiking, biking, and walking trails. The park’s 451 acres also include athletic fields, picnic areas, a boat launch, and live music at Cedar Creek Amphitheater. Residents can check out a book from the Rostraver Public Library, spend a day teeing off at Willowbrook Golf Course, or take advantage of the aviation services available at Rostraver Airport.
