In 1818, the State of New York created Amherst by an Act of the Senate. The town continued to grow and communities emerged. These communities, known as hamlets, have no boundaries and were often designated by their post offices. In 1850, Amherst was a prosperous farming community with farmers sending crops to Buffalo on the Erie Canal. The invention of automobiles made Amherst a viable neighborhood due to its easy commute to Buffalo.
Amherst is a bustling community with plenty to do. Boulevard Mall is perfect for shopping or mall walking. The Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village appeals to history buffs, hosting reenactments, tours, and much more, giving a glimpse into the past. Foodies can enjoy a wide variety, from authentic German at Black Forest Adler to bar food at Duff’s.
