About Rocky River
Situated roughly 10 miles west of Cleveland’s downtown Public Square, Rocky River is Cleveland’s premier western suburb. Its name originates from the river that flows along its eastern border and through the parkland of Rocky River Reservation.
Rocky River offers a variety of downtown conveniences with suburban luxuries. Some attractions in Rocky River include Westwood Country Club, with an impressive Colonial and Greek Revival-style clubhouse, Cleveland Yachting Club, Rocky River Park, Elmwood Park and Cabin, River Plaza Shopping Center, and Westwood Town Shopping Center. The bordering Rocky River Reservation portion of Cleveland Metroparks features ample biking, walking, and horseback riding trails, picnicking and fishing spots, and more.
Rocky River’s Public Library contains the Cowan Potter Museum with over 1200 pieces of distinctive American art pottery crafted by R. Guy Cowan between 1913 and 1931, and the Schlather antique collection from the estate of Leonard Schlather.
The Rocky River City School District serves Rocky River with Goldwood Primary School, Kensington Intermediate School, Rocky River Middle School, and Rocky River High School. The district has been ranked “3rd out of 610 School Districts in Ohio” by the Ohio Department of Education, and has also earned the “Excellent with Distinction” rating. Also serving Rocky River are six different private schools: Le Chaperon Rouge, St. Thomas Lutheran School, Ruffing Montessori, St. Christopher School, Lutheran West High School, and Magnificat High School.
