About New Kensington

New Kensington is a modestly sized city located roughly 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. Routes 56 and 366 converge within it, allowing for easy access to and from the area. The Allegheny River flows past New Kensington, letting residents enjoy views of the water and boating or fishing.

Downtown New Kensington is a quaint village-like setting with plenty of character and history dating back to the 1800s. Residents enjoy shopping and dining throughout the city, with a wide variety of places to visit. The school system in New Kensington is expansive, with several different elementary, middle and intermediate schools.

New Kensington is home to two major parks, Memorial Park and Massa Harbison Park, which provide pavilions and space to rent for parties and gatherings of all sizes. In addition to these larger parks, there are several smaller parks that are available for use throughout the year, such as Fairmont Park, Parnassus Park, Summit Street Park and JFK Playground.

New Kensington has several neighborhoods, each offering a different feel and lifestyle, which meet the needs of a variety of people. One of the most notable is Aluminum City Terrace, which was designed by renowned architects Walter Gropius and Marcel Brewer from the Bauhaus School of Design. Currently run as a housing co-op, it provides 250 units of low-maintenance living space.
