About Leechburg
Founded in 1850 by David Leech, Leechburg is a borough situated in southern Armstrong County along the Kiskiminetas River. Leechburg is steeped in history, from being a major port along the Pennsylvania Canal to hosting sheet steel works, cement plants, foundries, and productive coal mines, and being the first place where natural gas was utilized for industrial purposes. The Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society offers a comprehensive account of Leechburg’s history along with various artifacts.
Other places of interest in Leechburg include Leechburg Riverfront Park and Gilpin Park, Rivertown Pub, and local eateries such as Twisted Thistle, Lingrow Farm, and Pappy’s. The majority of shopping in Leechburg is downtown, near the Kiskiminetas River, and along Market Street.
Leechburg is one of the three municipalities in Armstrong County that offers full-time, seven-day-a-week police coverage. Leechburg is also serviced by the Leechburg Area School District.
