Living in Bay Village is comparable to living in a snow globe in the winter, with its picturesque scenery and historic buildings situated along Lake Erie. An old-fashioned sledding hill provides fun for all ages, as do soccer fields and ball diamonds, a community pool and the wonderful Huntington Beach, while the Bay Boat Club provides access to the lake.
Old-fashioned parades held on Memorial Day bring scouts, veterans and school bands together while residents line the curb. Fourth of July traditions are carried out year after year, starting with a bike parade and a three-day carnival in Cahoon Park, topped off with fireworks over Lake Erie. Free summer concerts in Cahoon Park by the gazebo entertain people of all ages. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic and sit under the stars.
Bay Arts, located in the Huntington Reservation across from the lake, offers a variety of art classes and showcases local artists through its wonderful gallery exhibits. They also provide some free band concerts to the public. A major picnic area and pavilion is situated in Huntington Park overlooking the lake; this area provides lots of space to gather, and the pavilion can be reserved for events and parties! Bay Village recently built a skate park which caters to the younger generations in the area. Newly built lighted tennis courts, a state-of-the-art community pool and a children’s playground are all located in the center of town.
The Lake Erie Nature and Science Center provides a number of educational programs for free or a minimal charge. The Center is home to many rescued birds and animals, and you can visit daily at no charge. There is also a planetarium with educational programs available on certain nights. Heavily wooded walking trails surround this area where a wonderful two-mile walking park sits on a cliff just above Lake Erie.
Bay Village takes pride in its community. Family Circle Magazine ranked Bay Village as one of its 10 Best Towns for Families. Several top-rated daycare facilities with afterschool care are in close proximity to schools. Within a couple of miles are offices, gas stations, an upscale mall, and a variety of stores. Access to Interstate 90 is a few feet from the city line and Interstate 480 is only about five miles south.
Bay Village real estate is comprised of single-family homes and one condominium building, Cashelmara, the original Lawrence mansion. Many well-maintained, historically designated homes and buildings are located throughout. Builders have replaced some older homes with new ones in areas of the city; a drive along Lake Road reveals newer, large-scale homes. It is not a community of “cookie-cutter” homes – each home is very individual and many are unique. The overall appearance of the community is similar to that of a small New England town.
