Born and raised in Morgantown, WV, Barbara attended St. Francis Catholic School for 12 years, and then graduated from WVU with a degree in family resources and a minor in business. Although her dream was to become a buyer in New York, it became apparent that she would follow in her family’s entrepreneurial footsteps and launch a career in the real estate industry.
As Broker/Owner, Barbara has been actively involved in her profession, achieving many awards and designations over the years. Her achievements include being named “Realtor of the Year”, President of West Virginia Association of Realtors, and appointed Regional Vice President of Region 3 of the National Association of Realtors. She has also been recognized as one of WV’s “Top Young Executives” and been given the Presidents Award and an Outstanding Achievement Award. And that is just the beginning.
There is more than just real estate in Barbara’s world. The community where she lives and works is extremely important and she is always giving back. She has served on the board of Your Community Foundation and was a Charter Member and served on the board of Monongahela Valley Bank. She has worked tirelessly on many levels with West Virginia University, serving on the board that built the Children’s Hospital in addition to chairing The Cancer Leadership Council, where she continues to serve on the board. Volunteering in and serving the community are priorities she shares with her entire Howard Hanna team.

Barbara Alexander McKinney recognized real estate as her first love in 1981 and the rest is history. As Broker/Owner, Barbara contributes to her profession through involvement in numerous committees, associations and boards. Named as "Realtor of the Year" by her peers, Barbara has gone on to serve as President of the West Virginia Association of Realtors and was appointed Regional Vice President of Region 3 of the National Association of Realtors.
Recognized for her accomplishments in West Virginia Magazine as one of West Virginia's Top Young Executives, she has served on many boards, Your Community Foundation, Charter Member of the Monongahela Valley Bank, President for the Rosenbaum Family House and currently Chair of the WV Medicine Cancer Institute Leadership Council.
Barbara was born and raised in Morgantown, WV, with her six brothers and sisters, and is the daughter of John and Cecilia Alexander. She and her husband Carlton McKinney, Jr. were named Power Couples of North Central West Virginia. They live in Bruceton Mills, WV and Duck Key, FL with their Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Rita and their Tabby rescue, Daniels.
