At heart, Audrey Edelman is a New York City gal who now calls Ithaca home! After being raised in the borough of Queens, the pursuit of a degree in education at SUNY Cortland brought Audrey to upstate New York. After graduation, Audrey taught English, social studies and art for 15 years in the Brooklyn and Tompkins County schools.
After being smitten by the area’s charm while in college, Audrey was able to relocate to Ithaca with her husband in 1969. She immediately enjoyed living in the Ithaca community. She describes “home” as a small upstate community inhabited by sophisticated, well-traveled and well-versed people who appreciate the area’s natural beauty and diverse community. She goes on to say that Ithaca provides many of the advantages of a cosmopolitan community, such as excellent restaurants and theater, without the hassles and high costs of big-city life.
Audrey left teaching in 1980, at the urging of her husband who mistakenly thought selling real estate would give her more free time than planning lessons and grading papers. Audrey discovered she possessed a talent for selling houses and soon became the number one salesperson in Ithaca.
On March 1, 1989, she founded Audrey Edelman & Associates Real Estate at its first home on North Triphammer Road in Ithaca, NY. Starting with three other top performers, the company has since grown to more than 60 Realtors who sell nearly one out of every two houses in Tompkins County. In 1995, Audrey added a mortgage company to her real estate operation.
Audrey’s goal was to be the undisputed leader in Ithaca real estate. Without a national franchise affiliation, Audrey committed an extraordinary marketing spirit and dedication to her brand imaging campaigns…and it paid off. Today, there is not one person in this community that does not associate the Audrey Edelman name with real estate.
Her business plan included a strong focus on customer satisfaction for both buyers and sellers, providing training and motivation for her Realtors’ success, maximizing the use of technology, and minimizing her Realtors’ administrative responsibilities so they could concentrate on their customers and clients.
Audrey has earned the prestigious CRB (Certified Residential Broker) designation, a real estate management designation earned by only 4% of broker/owners nationally. She is a member of the Ithaca Board of Realtors, New York State Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, and the Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce.
Audrey Edelman was honored with the coveted 2004 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year Award. The award was created by Ernst & Young LLP, to recognize the diligence and tenacity of “a truly outstanding and successful entrepreneur whose extraordinary leadership has created a legacy that has had a positive social and economic impact on his or her employees, community and industry.”
Audrey and her company were proudly profiled in the cover story and feature article of the Feb/March 2003 issue of the Real Estate Business Magazine. In February 2004, she received the Most Inspiring Story Award from the Central New York Business Journal, a publication in which Audrey Edelman & Associates was a Business of the Week in 2003. For 8 years, Audrey Edelman & Associates received the Ithaca Journal’s Reader’s Choice Award for The Best Real Estate Company. For her contributions to the community, Audrey received the 2008 Distinguished Woman of the Year Award from New York State.
In 2005, seeing the advantages of being affiliated with a larger brokerage, Audrey joined RealtyUSA, the number one non-franchise company in New York State and the sixth top producing company in the United States. Audrey Edelman RealtyUSA opened a second office in 2007 and has successfully continued to grow in size and market share.
Audrey Edelman RealtyUSA does much to thank the community for their company’s success. They are longtime corporate sponsors for the Hangar Theatre, Kitchen Theatre, and The State Theater. They consistently support the United Way of Tompkins County, Tompkins County Chamber of Commerce, Tompkins County Area Development, Ithaca Breast Care Alliance and AIDS Work of Tompkins County, among other organizations and events. They also are dedicated and involved with many local service projects.
Audrey is proud of the Associates and staff of Audrey Edelman RealtyUSA. She considers them “family” and friends. She also values the friends she has met as clients over the past thirty years. It has been a rewarding and fulfilling profession.
Audrey and her husband have two grown children and a precious five-year-old grandson.
Audrey loves art, the theater, interior design, collecting African art, walking, traveling, safaris…and her home life.
