Monroe County is rich in history.  You can visit the River Raisin Battlefield and watch reenactments. The Monroe County Historical Museum is located in downtown Monroe inside a historical former post office.  It is also the home of General George Armstrong Custer.  Recreational areas are abundant in Monroe County.  Sterling State Park is located off N. Dixie Highway with easy access from I75.  There you can enjoy camping, swimming, walking path, fishing and covered picnic areas.  Nearby you'll find the Vietnam Veterans Park and Memorial.  In the City of Monroe is St. Mary's Park where there's playground equipment, picnic areas and a bandshell where various events are held in the summer, including the Jazz Fest.  The Monroe County Fair is a week long event featuring rides, 4H Displays, tractor pull, demolition derby, main attraction performers and amusement rides.  Monroe also has a Sports Complex, bowling alleys and many restaurants.
