Erie Real Estate
Erie, Pennsylvania is commonly called the Flagship City because it is the home port for Oliver Hazard Perry’s flagship, Niagara. The city is uniquely positioned with easy access to many metropolitan areas of the Northeast, such as Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Erie was awarded the All-American City Award in 1972 and has been named a finalist as recently as 2009.
Erie is home to many professional and amateur performing-arts groups, as well as cultural centers and museums. The Erie Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lake Erie Ballet both include programs that entertain and enrich audiences of varying ages. The Erie Art Museum, Erie Maritime Museum, Erie Planetarium, Lake Shore Railway Historical Society and more can be found in this “city by the bay.”
The city is also one of the top ten snowiest in the United States, making it the perfect place for those who love skiing, snowmobiling or snowshoeing. It is home to the Peek’n Peak Resort & Spa, the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club and Asbury Woods.
The proximity of Erie to the shores of Lake Erie provides the opportunity for outdoor activities throughout the year. In addition to the Allegheny Reservoir, the region features over a dozen wineries, many of them award-winning. It manufactures the third largest amount of wine in the United States and is in the heart of America’s Grape Country.
Presque Isle Downs and Casino opened in 2007 and offers a slots parlor as well as thoroughbred racing. It features year-round racing as well as on-site dining. Erie’s Bayfront Convention Center is also located on Presque Isle and houses northwestern Pennsylvania’s largest banquet venue.
The cost of living in the city is well below the national average and it features affordable, livable, stunning real estate. With all that Erie has to offer, it is easy to see why so many choose to make this area their home.
