Mark Steele
President, Howard Hanna Mortgage Services and Barristers Land Abstract Company
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Mark Steele began his mortgage banking career in 1971 and then joined Howard Hanna Real Estate Services in 1978. Within six years he was responsible for establishing Howard Hanna Financial Services, Inc., and today, as President, oversees all facets of the day-to-day operation of the company. Under his direction, Howard Hanna Financial has become a full service mortgage banker; originating and servicing mortgage loans, as well as operating a wholesale division, lending in ten states. In 2006 the Hanna organization originated over 6,500 mortgage loans for a volume of over $775,000,000.
Mark heads the Howard Hanna Financial Group. In this capacity, he is responsible for supervising the activities of not only Hanna Financial, but also Barristers Land Abstract Company, Hanna’s title insurance agency of which he is President; Hanna Insurance Services and Hanna Appraisal Services. He also sits on the Executive Committee for Hanna Holdings, the parent company of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services and its affiliates.
Mark is a past President and former Director of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Western Pennsylvania. He is also a former member of the Advisory Board of the Pennsylvania Mortgage Bankers Association, the group instrumental in establishing the Pennsylvania Mortgage Bankers Association. Mark is an Executive Board Member of RESPRO, the real estate providers and settlement services council, in Washington, D.C.
He is a former Chairman and Director of the Dozen Mortgage Group and current member of the Board of Managers of the Realty Alliance Mortgage Group. Both are organizations of top independently owned and operated residential realty firms with mortgage companies, across the country whose objectives are to provide a forum in which member organizations can brainstorm, share ideas and critique the operations of fellow members to enhance performance and profitability.
His community activities include his appointment as Director and Treasurer for the West Pittsburgh Partnership, a community based non-profit organization in the City of Pittsburgh, whose initiatives include community development, low income housing and neighborhood employment services. Mark also is a former board member and Chairman of Pittsburgh’s affiliate chapter of Habitat for Humanity, an organization dedicated to providing simple descent housing to Allegheny County families. In 1993 he was nominated for President Clinton’s Volunteer Action Award.
