Hoby started his career in real estate learning from the founder of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, his grandfather Howard W. Hanna, Jr., his father Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna, III, Chairman and CEO and his aunts, Helen Hanna Casey, President and Annie Hanna Cestra, Executive Vice President.
Learning from the best helped Hoby launch his career into real estate in 1994 where he began as a sales associate in the company’s Squirrel Hill office in Pittsburgh where he rose to the top office producer for three consecutive years. After gaining recognition as a top producer in Pittsburgh, he was named manager of the Howland office in Ohio’s Mahoning Valley and grew the office from three to thirty-five agents. In 1999, Hoby was named Regional Manager of Operations in the 18-office, Valley Region for the company which included offices in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia.
Currently, as President of Howard Hanna Ohio, which includes Howard Hanna Smythe Cramer, Hoby directs the business and operational efforts of the Hanna company throughout the state of Ohio and works with the firm’s clients, office managers and sales associates to insure the company’s on-going reputation for excellence.
In addition he oversees land development operations for Howard Hanna, works closely with Howard Hanna Mortgage, Barristers of Ohio Title & Escrow Services and Howard Hanna Insurance.
Hoby’s involvement extends beyond the company and into the real estate profession and business in general, as well as the community. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Northern Ohio Multiple Listing Service (NORMLS), which works with 750 member real estate companies and over 8,000 real estate agents, to continually establish the highest of standards for marketing properties that are for sale on behalf of MLS users
He also is a member of The Realty Alliance, a network of North America’s most elite residential real estate firms. Members of the organization, which serves almost every major market on the continent, develop new ideas, strategies and methods to enable members to provide the highest degree of finest quality real estate service and counsel to their clients.
Hoby’s vision for innovation within the real estate industry is shown by his involvement as board member of Trulia, a real estate search engine that provides consumer information about properties on the market as well as providing real estate agents another way to market their listings, promote their services and provide meaningful data.
Hoby is a member of the Board of Directors for North Coast Community Homes, which develops and maintains housing for individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in Cuyahoga, Lake and Stark Counties in Ohio and for individuals with severe mental illness in Summit County Ohio.
In addition to the positions he holds on several boards, Hoby serves on leadership committees for Boys Hope Girls Hope, University Hospital Rainbow Children’s, The Cleveland Clinic, and NEO|SO. He is a member of the Cleveland Chapter of Young President’s Organization (YPO) which brings together more than 11,000 members in more than 100 nations to exchange ideas, share strategies, and address the challenges of leadership. Hoby is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Leadership Development program at Yale University. He is a licensed Broker and is active in numerous other professional, civic and community organizations locally and nationally.
