With more than three decades in the real estate industry, Helen, her sister Annie and brother Hoddy lead the fourth largest real estate company in the United States,1 overseeing 170 offices and 6200 sales associates in eight states. Howard Hanna continues to be family owned, now in its third generation. Her leadership and savvy marketing mind have helped Howard Hanna realize its potential by developing a multi-media approach to advertising. Helen is dynamic, committed and passionate about all she does in life; her family, her company and her community. She is also an industry leader both locally and nationally. She was the first woman to be elected to and serve as President of West Penn Multi List. She has chaired national groups such as The Realty Alliance, National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Executive Committee Chair of the Real Estate Services Advisory Board, and served on the Executive Committee of NAR. Helen has received the Distinguished Service Award from RAMP and has been named by Inman News as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Real Estate. Helen and her sister Annie were named among the Top 200 Women in Business by Working Woman’s Magazine, for which they were invited to the White House.
Through the years, Helen has served on numerous nonprofit boards. Her focus on education led to her serving on the Carlow University board where she served as chair, as well as being involved in local and public school initiatives. Helen has received honorary degrees from Carlow University, where she also served as Executive in Residence for their MBA program, and Georgian Court University, where she gave the commencement speech. Both schools are woman focused.
Just as dedicated to the Pittsburgh region, Helen is a member of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development Executive Committee, sits on the board of the Strategic Investment Fund, and is a past Chair of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce. She also sits on the board of TriState Capital Bank.
Helen also loves participating in the arts. She has served on the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera board, where she and her husband Steve received the CLOE award for dedication to local and national musical theatre. Just ask her why they have attended the Tony Awards and she will share her enthusiasm!
